Howdy!
My name is James Rushing, and I am a hard working Aggie Systems Engineering major. I will graduate in the spring of 2016, and am paying for my own school. I have two younger sisters (Madison and Alex) and like to hunt and read in my free time. I do my best to give my time back to others, so I am a member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where I serve on the Quarter Horse Committee. I also have volunteered with Grace Presbyterian in Houston, where I was a crew leader in the summer for Vacation Bible School.
Before I came to Texas A&M, I spent two years playing football at the Air Force Academy (I have included pictures in the photo section). I transferred home because I found out my neck is genetically fused and it didn't seem like flying would be a career choice any more. However, I wouldn't trade my two years at the Academy for anything, as I have learned countless lessons in leadership, learned what Service Before Self truly means, and made lifelong friendships.
Now that I am at Texas A&M, I would prefer to work around automation and controls, but a business development role and field engineering also interest me. Since a company expects immediate value when hiring a candidate, below are three of my strengths and how they can add value to a company immediately. TEAM WORK ABILITIES
When working with large projects, team work and effective communication is paramount. An important aspect of large project work is the ability to work within a team and maximize each partners' abilities. My previous experiences at the Air Force Academy within my squad, my Eagle Scout and time in Boy Scouts, and my time on various football teams have taught me the value of a cohesive unit. The teams that achieve the most are the ones that are accountable to each other and want to be responsible for their piece of the project. |
SERVANT LEADERSHIP MINDSET
When put in a leadership role, it is important that the people under the leader know that he or she is there for them. As John Maxwell said, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."
My most valuable take away from the Air Force Academy came in the form of service leadership, as I was the A-2 element non commissioned officer for squadron 35. My role was to coordinate the extra curricular activities for my element, as well as personally mentor and coach a freshman. |
CUSTOMER RELATION SKILLS
Marketing to new clients is the name of the game when it comes to expanding a business. A second crucial part of the business is maintaining current clients by utilizing customer relation tools.
In my two and a half years with Cutco in direct sales, I have personally been responsible for the marketing and retention of my clients' business. I am personally responsible for close to $100,000 from my existing database of clients. |
