5. Demonstrate social, cultural, and global competence, including ability to:
As the business world expands to the international level, it is usual for companies to send their employees abroad. Today's problems can be solved effectively through collaborative efforts. However, working with people from different parts of the world may come with some challenges such as different cultures and work ethics. It was brought to our attention in our Tech Writing Class that some cultures operate differently than others and that is important to actually pay attention to these differences. For example, in America time is valued and therefore emails are often prompt and to the point. But in Qatar, it was brought to our attention that more attention is placed on relationships, therefore emails can be long and drawn out because they contain casual conversations pertaining to things such as the weather. These differences are important, because an American email might come across as terse and rude when read by an opposite cultural member.
7. Work Collaboratively, including the ability to:
Football
Playing football is by default a collaborative team effort. After coming to A&M, I decided to join the intramural flag football team, and we did quite well. The reason for this is because each person knew their own role and worked well as a team to combine the roles into a successful product.
Vector Marketing
While working Vector Marketing, I was exposed to a close working environment with several unique individuals. Many times there was considerable tension between my coworkers that made collaboration difficult. Initially I did not know how to respond to these differences in personalities, because these were highly unique individuals, some of whom had severe social disorders. The best collaboration resulted with proper division of the office workload, which allowed each contributor to work with their strengths.

A situation that occurred outside of the classroom involved my roommate here at our off campus apartment, the Rise. My roommate was fighting with my other roommate about which would get the better room out of the remaining rooms. It empowered me to take responsibility for my own decisions and actions by giving up my room for a less desirable one. This helped me connect my desire for peace and quiet with my servant leadership abilities by giving up something of personal value for the benefit of the whole. I learned that some times you have to make trade-offs for the betterment of the whole, as well as when you take care of people they will take care of you. This exchange resulted in my roommate and I having a better appreciation for our friendship and now we go out together and have introduced each other to a whole new network of people.
