Life ExPERIENCES
Team workI could point to many teamwork experiences in my lifetime, but football is closest to my heart. I played high school football on a state - semifinal team where most members were like brothers to each other. To me, this was a great teaching experience for me because it showed me the possibilities and achievements that were possible when everyone completed their responsibilities. On the other hand, the next season I found out the disasters that are possible when every one isn't responsible to each other. The Air Force Academy's 2012 JV football team didn't have a very successful year because of a "me first" mentality.
On a separate note, I am an Eagle Scout and have seen countless examples of team work coming together to create beautiful and highly successful Eagle Scout projects. My biggest takeaway on teamwork has been the ability of a team to achieve when the individual members care about more than just their individual assignments. |
Servant LeadershipServant leadership has long been a passion of mine. One of my role models for this is Joe Sanders, the VP of Global Engineering for Mustang Engineering. Joe has a zest for life and he hasn't met a stranger yet. He is an example to me because there isn't a single person that he wouldn't be willing to stop and help.
Another example of this leadership is my own father, who always wants to better those around him. His biggest challenge to me in life has been to do better for my future posterity than he has done for us. He is already encouraging me to be a future servant leader in my Faith, family, and contributions to society. Personally, I am already a servant leader in my efforts to give back to the community that has Blessed me. I volunteer for Grace Vacation Bible School every summer, Rebuilding Together Houston, Habitats for Humanity, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and have recently volunteered for next school year with Breakaway Ministries here in College Station. |
Customer RelationsTo me, the biggest impact my life experiences have taught me so far would be to treat others as you would wanted to be treated. Some say this is what the Bible teaches, some call it the Golden Rule, but as for me, I call it common sense. In life, I have learned that if you help enough people get what they want, eventually you will also receive what you want. For me, client relations are really just people skills and taking care of other people. In my life, this has been closely tied into servant leadership in and out of business.
